What an incredible year. It began in India, on the terrace of a hostel in Varanasi. The power had been knocked out across the city and a dense fog added an eerie luminescence to the sporadic fireworks that echoed down the darkened cobbled streets and alleyways.
Last night it ended in downtown Santiago - drinking cheap beer surreptitiously sold out of an ice packed wheelie bin by a festively cheerful Chilean. Confetti carpeted the main avenue and a decidedly more coordinated display of fireworks erupted from the Entel tower.
In between, following a natural disaster that destroyed my home city, I found myself on a path that lead to the accomplishment of my long held goal of living in South America.
