A quick life update. I moved into an apartment in Providencia on Saturday. Nice spot located right next to a fresh produce market and from my bed I can see the statue of the Virgin Mary perched on Cerro San Cristóbal, looking down on me and emblazoned in light.
On Sunday I had lunch with my Chilean friend Natalia - she speaks less English than I speak Spanish, so the conversation is wonderfully absurd. She likes beer, socialism and something she calls “gender equality”. I surprise myself everyday.
We went to the international book fair where the highlight (especially for Natalia) was to see the singer Chinoy perform. From the research I have done, the press have referred to him as the Chilean Bob Dylan, but I thought he sounded more like a Chilean James Blunt - I put this down to the androgynous voice because I couldn’t understand a word of the lyrics. Take a listen for yourself - there are some great tracks on his MySpace page. Nonetheless, it’s always a treat to hear local musicians and I’ve added him to my playlist.
Tomorrow I get Wi-Fi in my apartment, and balance will be restored to my universe.
